Correction of protruding ears

The best time to correct ears is after 6 years of age, at which time growth of the ear has ended.

The aim of correction is to improve the appearance of protruding ears and unwanted components of the cartilage.

Skin incision is made on the rear surface of the ear. From behind the ear the aesthetic surgeon cuts the excess skin, cartilage, and remodels and fixes the cartilage into position. The length of surgery rarely exceeds 60 minutes. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and absorbable sutures are used.

In most cases, ear correction leaves a small scar on the back surface of the ear, which eventually becomes invisible.

The ear cartilage remodelling is permanent within two to six months. After this period of time it becomes harder, elastic and resistant to deformation.
